Without any exaggeration at all, I can tell you that the number of times as an adult I’ve had trouble reaching orgasm numbers in the single digits.

Really.

Er, sorry to brag.

So it was with just a bit of hesitation that I cracked open The Orgasm Loop: The No-Fail Technique for Reaching Orgasm During Sex by Susan Crain Bakos. I felt like I should pass it off to someone who could get more out of it, you know what I mean?

Susan Crain Bakos, a former columnist for Penthouse Forums, has written about human sexuality for over twenty years. She’s interviewed thousands of people, including over 500 women whose experiences went into the research behind the Orgasm Loop technique.

First, a bit about what you’ll see when you open the book. It’s filled with images of a lovely woman and her hunky partner in all stages of nudity. The positions and techniques illustrated certainly look like sure-fire ways to gettin’ off. We’ve got your vibrator play, your cunnilingus, and your deep doggie-style with a hand on the clit. Gorgeous pictures, and emulating them should be both fun and effective.

Just don’t count on reading this book on the train, or in front of Great Aunt Hazel. The pictures might be just a wee bit too nekkid for that sort of thing.

Men can see arousal in the state of their erections, Crain Bakos points out, and that positive feedback keeps them moving toward greater and greater pleasure. Her aim is to teach women to picture an increasingly turned-on state in our minds, as it is difficult if not impossible in ordinary circumstances to see the effects of arousal in our bodies.

She encourages the use of some of our tried and true favorite toys, such as the Hitachi Magic Wand. By learning these techniques with toys and alone, Crain Bakos says, performance anxiety and the desire to please a partner is removed from the equation, leaving a woman free to concentrate on what’s happening in her own body. Very good advice indeed.

Crain Bakos offers additional advice for women in special situations, such as those using anti-depressant medication. She devotes a chapter to physical changes after the age of 40, and another to women who have chosen a non-partnered status.

Visualizing arousal, incorporating sex toys into your play and enjoying solo sexual exploration? All excellent advise from The Orgasm Loop for those hoping to track down an elusive climactic experience.
