colds and rain and books
Tue Sep 25, 2007
Blah. I’m not having the best day today. I started getting a cold last night (hopefully a minor one) just in time for the weather to turn bad. And to top it off, we woke up this morning to about 3 gallons of water all over the floor of our living room, because the addition is partway done but the roof is not all there. They’re putting trusses on this week so they can start roofing the new section on Monday, but there was enough room around the tarp they have up for water to get in. If there is a way in, water will find it.
So then I found out last night that I actually do have jury duty. I think. At any rate, I need to show up today at the courthouse, which is the closest I’ve ever been to actual jury duty. Whether or not they assign a case is another story, but I hope they do because I missed my weekly pilates session for this. I NEED my weekly pilates session, it’s the one guaranteed workout every week because it’s with other people. When I’m on my own, I tend not to be the most motivated girl in the world.
It’s not all bad, however. Luze of Jollie’s sextoy fame was a sweetheart and sent me a Jollie to try. If you read our sextoy reviews, you know that AAG has reviewed it already, quite favorably. To take my mind off of my cold this morning Elliott helped me test drive mine. Yum. The little ring thing in it is a great place to attach a vibe. The whole thing pretty much kept me on the edge of an orgasm for an extended period of time. I LOVE staying right on the edge and floating along.
Reading material for the waiting around I’ll be doing with said jury duty:
The Book of Loss by Julith Jedamus (think ‘Memoirs of a Geisha’. I’m a little ways in, and I love her writing style. )
Here Lies My Heart - Essays on Why We Marry, Why We Don’t, and What We Find There, edited by Amy Bloom. (obviously I have a thing for marriage, I’m on my third. I love just how diverse these essays are, with views on serial monogamy, non-monogamy, the downfalls and the virtues?! of affairs, and so on.)
If I end up actually being away for a few days, I will still update in the mornings before I leave.

I’ve always wanted to be on jury duty but have never been called.

My Grandpa had an interesting anecdote about jury duty. He’s in his 80’s and apparently has always wanted to be called, but it never happened. Within a week of my Grandmother’s death, he was called - he was utterly certain it was her, “pulling some strings.”
I think it’s strange how most people want to get out of it. It’s such an interesting part of American law and government, I really wanted to do it. Unfortunately, after several hours of jury selection questioning today, I didn’t get picked. 41 of us, and only 12 selected of course. Now I’m still on call for another 10 days, so maybe….
