OK, I just finished and want to tell you what I thought. I thought it was a very good first effort and enjoyed the book as a whole. Without picking it to pieces, which I hate to do, the only thing I’d change would be to put her picture on the back cover. The voice of the writer and her picture were more confusing to me than anything. I might even recommend it and would gladly loan it to a friend.

Well that’s the thing: at first I read it as self-hatred, but then later I read it differently. I read it as opportunism instead, in that she had to pretend at the self-hatred to get from point a to point b, and have mainstream media accept it.

I totally agree. More than once I cried at her self hatred and loneliness. I kept glancing at her cover picture thinking is this really the face of the woman in this story? I’m 3/4’s through but I know if anyone asks I will tell them that its the story of a woman finding herself and it is indeed very sad.
