I forgot to blog about how absofuckinglutely amazing the Brandi Carlile concert was the other night. I twittered about it, but it wasn’t enough. I think it was actually the single best live music experience I’ve had. For comparison, my top five concerts of all time:

1. Brandi Carlile at Mount Baker Theater, Bellingham
2. Nina Simone at Benaroya Hall, Seattle
3. James Taylor at Paramount, Seattle
4. Over the Rhine, Triple Door, Seattle
5. Charley Musselwhite, Buddy Guy’s, Chicago

what do all of these people have in common? Incredible live performances and massive charisma. Brandi was one of the most charismatic performers I’ve seen, right up there with Nina Simone, who when I saw her (about a year before her death at age 71) could still command an audience like nobody’s business.

And the twins, let me not even get started there. Their version of Simon and Garfunkel’s “Sounds of Silence” was impeccable. More than once, I actually got a little misty eyed. It was a concert that touched and inspired me. If you ever get a chance to see her live, take it. The recorded version is wonderful, but nothing can compare to them live. Just sayin’.
