Sliquid Silk Lube from Babeland

It is my goal to try every single lube in the known universe, or at least in the Western Hemisphere. To that end, I ordered a bottle of Sliquid Silk Lube from Babeland and plotted out my testing strategies.

Sliquid Silk is a “hybrid” lube–Babeland says that it combines the best characteristics of water-based and silicone-based lubes into one product. Like any silicone lube, you can’t use Sliquid Silk with silicone toys.

The lube looks very much like hand lotion. It’s a creamy whitish fluid that feels extra-slippery between the fingers. The label really can’t be removed, and it prominently announces the contents of the container. This means that unless you live alone–or don’t mind your friends, neighbors, kids, cable guy, apartment manager, and mother gawking at your sexy stuff–you’ll probably want to hide your Sliquid Silk away in a drawer.

The product comes in a plastic bottle with a flip-top. This is a great way to dispense lube, because you can liberally pour it on. As much as you want! A continuous stream, if you so desire! Ounces at a time!

Actually, for vaginal or anal sex, you don’t need all that much Sliquid Silk. About a tablespoon (er..not that I took an actual tablespoon to bed with me, ’cause that would just be kinky) was plenty when I used it for penetrative sex with a penis and a toy. It stayed slippery in me for as long as I wanted to keep going.

I wasn’t crazy about Sliquid Silk when it came to two other intimate activities: fisting and massaging. It just wasn’t long-lasting enough for fisting; my own (quite copious) gushing washed it away too quickly. It definitely seemed more like a water-based lube in this regard.

I also tried to use the lube for a lower-back massage for a friend. I spread quite a lot of it on his back, but I found myself having to reapply it frequently because it kept gumming up on me. I’ve tried and LOVED giving massages before with straight silicone lubes, so I was disappointed that this hybrid lube couldn’t match the massaging capabilities of its purebred cousins.

Additionally, Sliquid Silk has a slightly bitter, almost soapy taste to it. If you use it for sex and then later decide to engage in a little oral, you’ll probably want to wash up first. The lube has no artificial fragrances added to it, but it does have a sort of chemically smell to it. The scent isn’t awful, but you will know it’s there.

Sliquid Silk is certainly a serviceable lube for vaginal or anal sex, but it’s not anywhere near the top of my list. I’d recommend it most to partners who wanted lube only for the aforementioned types of sex and who were willing either to clean up or stop after using the lube.
